Lobbyist Registrations Soon Available
On-line
HARRISBURG -- Want
to know who is lobbying issues in Pennsylvania? Interested in finding out which
clients a particular lobbyist or lobbying firm is representing? That
information, which is contained in reports lobbyists are required to file with
the state Senate, is now coming on-line through Legislative Data Processing.
Senator Robert C. Jubelirer and Senator Robert C.
Mellow pushed to make the lobbyist registration reports more readily accessible
to the public and the media. It is anticipated to be fully accessible by
Thursday, February 5th.
“Until we are successful in putting a new
lobbyist disclosure law in place, this will be the ‘window on influence’ for
Pennsylvania taxpayers and consumers. We believed that it was extremely
important to collect this information, and that the people who will benefit most
from this information should be able to obtain it without undue difficulty,”
according to Senator Jubelirer.
Senator Mellow said that: “The free flow of
information is vital to a healthy democracy. New technology can provide voters
with unprecedented access to essential information. I hope that Pennsylvanians
will take advantage of it.”
Since the beginning of the 2003-04 legislative
session, a Senate Rule has imposed the only disclosure requirement for
lobbyists. Because of that circumstance, only the spending related to lobbying
the Senate is contained in the reports filed with the Secretary of the Senate.
