Committee Endorses General Jessica Wright’s Nomination
Would Become 1st
Woman to Lead State National Guard
HARRISBURG -- Brigadier
General Jessica L. Wright is a step closer to becoming the state’s Adjutant
General, according to Senator Don White, Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs
and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
General Wright’s nomination was unanimously
approved by the committee today.
General Wright would become the first woman to
serve as Pennsylvania’s top military officer and commander of the state National
Guard and Air National Guard if her nomination is approved by the full Senate.
“I met with
General Wright and I am impressed,” Senator White said. “She was the first
female Army aviator in the Army National Guard and in June 2001 she became the
first woman to earn general stars in the Pennsylvania National Guard. It
is an understatement to say that General Wright has an impressive resume.
Just as she has served with distinction in every post she has held, I believe
General Wright will be an exemplary state Adjutant General and I look forward to
working with her in the future.”
