Senate Republicans Tab Melinson for Economic Financing Post

HARRISBURG -- Gregg R. Melinson, an attorney from Southeastern Pennsylvania, has been named by Senate President Pro Tempore Robert C. Jubelirer to serve on the newly created Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Melinson, a partner in DrinkerBiddle, currently serves on the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority, a board that has oversight responsibility for the finances of the City of Philadelphia.  He served as deputy general counsel during the Ridge Administration.

“This authority has a consequential job, and the people who serve on it need to be top-notch.  Chip Brightbill and I looked at the credentials of a number of people, and received a lot of recommendations, and Gregg Melinson impressed us as being the right fit for the job.  He draws strong support from those who he has worked with, and respect from those he has lined up against,” Jubelirer said.

“He has the knowledge and experience needed to meet the parallel goals in this economic stimulus effort -- establishing the appropriate state role in economic and community development projects that will create jobs and opportunity, while ensuring that the approaches taken are fiscally responsible,” he added.

Melinson expressed his enthusiasm about his new responsibility.  "I have had the good fortune of representing the Senate Republican Caucus in a variety of capacities over the last 12 years, and it has always been my honor to do so.  I'm particularly pleased to be asked to serve in connection with the CFA because I view it as Pennsylvania's best hope for creating a shared vision of our economic future.  The only way to make effective capital investments in our economic infrastructure is to work together to support cutting-edge programs pursuant to a cohesive plan -- the structure of the CFA gives us the opportunity to do precisely that."

Melinson resides in Blue Bell, Montgomery County with his wife, Pam, and their two sons.
