Dent’s Continuing Education Bills Headed to Governor
HARRISBURG -- The
General Assembly today (June 29) approved two bills by Senator Charles W. Dent,
16th District, setting continuing education requirements for respiratory care
professionals.
Senate Bill 751 and Senate Bill
752 are now headed to Governor Ed Rendell for his signature and enactment into
law. Since the bills were amended by the House of Representatives to make minor
technical changes, the final legislative approval came with the Senate’s
concurrence of the amended legislation.
SB 751 and SB 725 establish a
requirement that respiratory care professionals receive 20 credit hours or other
approved continuing education as part of the biennial renewal of their
licenses. The bills also provide for refusal, suspension or revocation of
respiratory care practitioner certificates, and for automatic suspension and
temporary suspension of respiratory care practitioners.
“I am pleased that these
bills are headed to the governor for enactment. It’s important to note that
these bills were originally introduced by my colleague, the late Senator
Clarence Bell during last session,” Senator Dent said. “Health care is an
ever-changing science and it is important that professionals keep up-to-date
with the latest treatments in their specialty. Ultimately, the patients will
benefits from the extra training that respiratory care professionals will
receive as part of the licensing require set by this legislation.”
