Thompson Hails Biotechnology/Life Sciences Day
HARRISBURG -- State
Senator Robert J. Thompson, R-19th District, today (November 15) welcomed
students and educators to a special Biotechnology/Life Sciences Day exhibition
in the State Capitol in Harrisburg.
The event, sponsored by the
Department of Education, was intended to highlight the importance of
biotechnology and life sciences education in Pennsylvania.
“I was especially happy to see
so many of our young people and their teachers here. I hope that the students
left with a better appreciation and a deeper commitment to the importance of the
sciences today and in the future,” said Senator Thompson, Chairman of the
Senate’s Biotechnology/Life Sciences Caucus. And, I hope the teachers return to
their classrooms with an increased feeling of satisfaction in knowing that you
are playing an important role in shaping Pennsylvania’s future.”
Exhibits on biotechnology and
life sciences were set up by a number of Pennsylvania schools in the East Wing
Rotunda of the State Capitol during the day-long event.
Senator Thompson said the
exhibition was a good way to showcase Pennsylvania’s growing high-tech sector.
“Information technology,
health care and bio-tech research are all in the top tier of businesses that we
are promoting in Pennsylvania and for good reasons,” Senator Thompson said.
“These are businesses that are on the cutting edge. They lay the groundwork
for a path to prosperity that we as a region and a state can follow for decades
to come.”
