Turnpike Keeps Moving
HARRISBURG -- Travelers
with plans involving the
Pennsylvania Turnpike will receive a free
ride on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 until midnight. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on
Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25, 2004, management employees of the
Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will man all toll collection facilities to keep
the 531-mile long highway system open for passenger and commercial vehicles
during the work stoppage.
A flat toll will then be collected.
E-Z Pass and cash customers will pay temporary flat toll rates of $2
for passenger vehicles and $15 for commercial vehicles — regardless of distances
traveled. The accounts of E-Z Pass customers with fares less than $2 (passenger
vehicles) and less than $15 (commercial vehicles) will be charged the actual
fare. No toll tickets will be issued upon entering the Turnpike.
Concerns about construction or road and weather
conditions along the Turnpike can be addressed at “Real
Time Turnpike Conditions” anytime of the year.
