in January
HARRISBURG -- When
the Pennsylvania Senate begins its 2005-06 Legislative Session in January, two
new members will join the Republican Caucus: State Representative Pat Vance of
Cumberland County, and Bob Regola of Westmoreland County.
On Election Day, Vance defeated her Democratic
challenger, Sean Quinlan, by a 3-1 margin to take the seat of retiring Senator
Hal Mowery in the 31st District. Regola defeated
incumbent Democratic Senator Allen Kukovich by over 5,300 votes to
represent the 39th District.
A professional nurse, Vance has been a member of the
House of Representatives since 1991. She currently serves as vice chair of the
Professional Licensure Committee, and is a member of the Health and Human
Services, Finance, Insurance and Policy committees. Previously, she chaired the
Select Committee on Pharmaceuticals. Vance also serves on the Health Committee
of the Council of State Governments.
Many of Vance’s legislative initiatives are now law,
including measures to expand prescription coverage for seniors, to protect the
elderly, to protect patients’ rights, to protect victims of domestic violence,
to protect children from drug and alcohol abuse, and to protect the rights of
property owners.
Locally, Vance is a member of several charitable,
community and religious organizations. She is a trustee of Harrisburg Area
Community College, a board member of the Pennsylvania Division of the American
Trauma Society, and a member of the advisory committee for Domestic Violence
Services for Cumberland and Perry Counties.
A civil engineer, Regola has been an advocate for
cutting government waste and for protecting the rights of taxpayers.
He led the way to form Hempfield Township’s Department of Public Works, and
spearheaded the formation of the Multi Municipal Comprehensive Plan between
Hempfield Township, City of Greensburg and Southwest Greensburg Borough. Regola
serves on the board of the Sewickley Creek Watershed Committee.
He is also a member of the Board of the Westmoreland County Stormwater
Management Committee.
