Dent Submits Resignation Letter from PA Senate
HARRISBURG -- State
Senator Charles W. Dent today (December 30) wrote the “closing chapter” of his
14-year career as a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly as he submitted
his resignation from the Pennsylvania State Senate. He will be sworn into
office as the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District
on Tuesday, January 4.
“By this letter I submit my resignation as a member
of the Senate of Pennsylvania, effective 11:59 p.m. on 2 January 2005,” Senator
Dent wrote in the resignation letter submitted to Lieutenant Governor (Senate
President) Catherine Baker Knoll. “It has been a high honor and distinct
pleasure to serve as a member of this extraordinary institution for the past six
years.”
Senator Dent served four two-year terms in the
Pennsylvania House of Representatives prior to his election to serve in the
state Senate.
Copies of Senator Dent’s resignation letter were
also presented to Senate Secretary Mark Corrigan, Senate Chief Clerk W. Russell
Faber, Senate President Pro Tempore Senator Robert Jubelirer, Senate Majority
Leader Senator David J. “Chip” Brightbill, and Senate Majority Counsel Steve
MacNett.
“During my time in the Senate, I strived to serve
the citizens of the 16th Senatorial District professionally and effectively. I
am very grateful to the people who have given me this wonderful opportunity and
position of public trust,” Senator Dent wrote.
“I am also grateful for the privilege of serving as
a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania and with my fellow Senators,” he
continued. “While many new and exciting challenges of service in Congress await
me, I will always remain proud of my time and work in the Senate, and I will
forever feel respect and admiration for my colleagues and the institution
itself.”
