Vance Takes Oath of Office, Receives Committee
Assignments
HARRISBURG -- Sen.
Patricia Vance (R-Cumberland/York) was sworn in to office today surrounded by
family and supporters as the Senate convened its 2005-06 legislative session.
“It is an honor to represent the people of
Cumberland and York counties,” Vance said. “I’m looking forward to working with
my colleagues to make Pennsylvania a better place to live and work. With my
tenure in the House, I am ready to get started.”
Vance’s family looked on as she pledged to uphold
the Commonwealth’s Constitution. Those present for the ceremony included Vance’s
son and daughter-in-law, her three grandsons and her brother and sister-in-law.
Vance also was appointed vice chair of the Aging and
Youth Committee and a member of the following committees – Public Health and
Welfare, Finance, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Community and Economic
Development, and Law and Justice. She also was selected to replace retired Sen.
Hal Mowery on the Capitol Preservation Committee. This is an independent
Commonwealth committee established by the General Assembly in 1982 to direct
programs to conserve, preserve and restore the Pennsylvania State Capitol and
its contents, maintaining it for future generations.
“I’m especially pleased to have been selected for
the Aging and Youth and Public Health and Welfare committees,” Vance said.
“These committees will allow me to continue my work to promote the health of all
Pennsylvanians.”
Vance’s term in the House was focused on health care
related issues. She successfully won approval of legislation to expand the
state’s prescription drug program for seniors, give parents the right to commit
their minor child for drug and alcohol treatment, protect consumers by defending
the rights of those who have managed care plans, and prevent insurance companies
from discriminating against domestic violence victims by considering their
victimization as an underwriting criterion.
Vance’s district includes all of Cumberland County
and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships
and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
