Judiciary Committee Sets Violent Crime Hearing in Pittsburgh August 10
HARRISBURG -- A
public hearing on urban violence will be conducted by the Senate Judiciary
Committee on Thursday, August 10, 2006, in the Gold Room of the Allegheny County
Courthouse, 436 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, beginning at noon, according to Sen.
Stewart J. Greenleaf, chairman of the committee.
Witnesses to date include Pastor Eddie Maxie Givner, Eagles of Prayer
Tablernacle Church, Inc.; Detective Joseph Bielevicz, Firearms Tracking
Unit, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; Professor Preston K. Covey, Carnegie
Mellon University, Kim Stolfer, Legislative Committee Chairman,
Allegheny County Sportsmen's League, Inc., and Chairman, Firearms Owners
Against Crime; Alan Schultz; and representatives of the Allegheny County
District Attorney's office and the organization CeaseFirePA.
The hearing will be the second in a series
of four on the issue of urban violence. The committee held the initial
hearing last week in Philadelphia and plans hearings in Altoona and
Harrisburg on August 23 and September 25, respectively.
