on Cable Choice in Competition Legislation

HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania Senate Communications and Technology Committee Chairman Rob Wonderling (R-24) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Penn State Delaware County campus, 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Middletown Township, Hearing Room 203 in the Classroom Building.  The purpose of the hearing is to examine pending statewide cable franchising legislation.

A press availability will be held prior to the hearing at 9:30 a.m. in Room 208 in the Classroom Building.

Those testifying include: State Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9); video service providers; incumbent cable operators; consumer advocates; and statewide municipal associations among others. The committee will also hear about other states who have considered similar legislation.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to hear from so many different individuals and organizations regarding this important legislation that has the potential to affect the lives of so many consumers in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Wonderling.

As prime sponsor of the Cable Choice in Competition legislation, Senator Pileggi said, “I am proud to introduce this legislation.  By introducing competition into Pennsylvania’s cable market, Senate Bill 1247 will benefit consumers, continue to serve our municipalities, and strengthen Pennsylvania’s economy.”

Penn State Delaware County is located in Middletown Township on PA Route 352 just north of the Granite Run Mall, one mile North of U.S. Route 1 (Baltimore Pike) and six miles south of PA Route 3 (West Chester Pike). The campus sits on a 90 acre site about 20 miles west of Philadelphia and four miles west of Media.
