to Hold Hearing
on Cable Choice in
Competition Legislation
HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania
Senate Communications and Technology Committee Chairman Rob Wonderling (R-24)
will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Penn
State Delaware County campus, 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Middletown Township,
Hearing Room 203 in the Classroom Building. The purpose of the hearing is to
examine pending statewide cable franchising legislation.
A press
availability will be held prior to the hearing at 9:30 a.m. in Room 208 in the
Classroom Building.
Those testifying include: State Senator
Dominic Pileggi (R-9); video service providers;
incumbent cable operators; consumer advocates; and
statewide municipal associations among others. The committee will also
hear about other states who have considered similar legislation.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to
hear from so many different individuals and organizations regarding this
important legislation that has the potential to affect the lives of so
many consumers in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Wonderling.
As prime sponsor of the Cable Choice in
Competition legislation, Senator Pileggi said, “I am proud to introduce
this legislation. By introducing competition into Pennsylvania’s cable
market, Senate Bill 1247 will benefit consumers, continue to serve our
municipalities, and strengthen Pennsylvania’s economy.”
Penn State Delaware County is located in
Middletown Township on PA Route 352 just north of the Granite Run Mall,
one mile North of U.S. Route 1 (Baltimore Pike) and six miles south of
PA Route 3 (West Chester Pike). The campus sits on a 90 acre site about
20 miles west of Philadelphia and four miles west of Media.
