Senate Adopts Sen. Robbins' Local Government Resolution

SR 21 dedicates April 15 to 21 to commemorate municipalities

The Senate today adopted Senate Resolution 21, a resolution introduced by Senator Bob Robbins designating the week of April 15 through 21, 2007, as "Local Government Week" in Pennsylvania.

"Each year, the Governor's Center for Local Government Services hosts Local Government Week recognizing the accomplishments of local governments and officials. This year, the designated week is April 15 through 21," Senator Robbins said. "The truth is government begins at the local level. Municipal governments are there to address neighborhood concerns and provide for the well being of the people of the community."

Senator Robbins was recently reappointed to serve as a Senate representative to the Pennsylvania Local Government Commission, a bi-partisan, bi-cameral panel that provides research and recommendations to the General Assembly on issues affecting municipalities.

Senator Robbins has served on the Commission since 1994. He served as the Commission's Chairman from 1995 to 2001 and was reelected to that position last year.

Senator Robbins has actively worked on many local government initiatives as a legislator and a member of the Commission. In 1996, as Chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee, he played a key role in orchestrating the merger of the Department of Community Affairs and Department of Commerce into the current Department of Community and Economic Development. He also strongly supported the creation of the Center for Local Government Services, an important resource for local officials.
