Senate Journals Dating Back to 1993 Now Online
Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25), Senate Majority Leader
Dominic Pileggi (R-9), and Senate Democratic Leader Bob Mellow (D-22) announced
today that the Senate's complete Legislative Journals from 1993 to 2004 are now
available online at
www.pasen.gov.
"This is another step in our ongoing effort to make the Senate's activity
more transparent to the public," said Sen. Scarnati. "It is a natural outgrowth
of our new rules and our new attitude."
The Senate's Legislative Journals from 2005 to the present have been
available online since January 2007, when the Senate adopted a series of new
rules designed to make the legislative process easier to follow.
"Having 15 years worth of the Senate's Legislative Journals easily accessible
is also a valuable educational and historical tool," said Sen. Pileggi. "Many
important policy decisions have been made since 1993."
"We are constantly looking for ways to give the public insight into the
Senate's actions," said Sen. Mellow. "Adding these journals to the Senate's web
site enhances that effort."
During the current legislative session, the Senate has added a great deal of
information to the Senate's official web site, including:
- A live video feed of all Senate sessions;
- Roll call votes from the Senate floor;
- Votes to report bills and resolutions out of Senate committees; and
- The text of all amendments offered on the Senate floor.
The Senate's Legislative Journals from years prior to 1993, dating as far
back as 1802, will continue to be available in the Senate Library.
