Senate Republican Caucus to Host Transportation
Funding Summit
Seeking input on the challenges facing all areas of
transportation, the Senate Republican Caucus will host a Transportation Funding
Summit from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, November 17th in Hearing Room 1 of
the Commonwealth Keystone Building in Harrisburg.
The meeting is being hosted by outgoing Transportation
Committee Chairman Senator Roger Madigan (R-Bradford) and will bring together
legislators, community leaders, educators, business owners, and representatives
of the transportation industry for a wide-ranging discussion on
transportation-related issues.
"There is no doubt that we have major challenges facing all
areas of transportation – from motor vehicles and freight transportation to
public transit," Madigan said. "Our goal is to bring together all those
affected by these challenges and seek input to better position ourselves to
improve our transportation systems, meet growing demands and find sustainable
funding sources."
The summit will feature three sessions, all of which are
open to the public. They include: Understanding the Funding Environment – State
and National Perspectives; Understanding the Obstacles to Funding
Transportation; and Perspectives on Funding Options.
Among those scheduled to speak are PennDOT Secretary Allen
D. Biehler and experts in transportation policy and funding.
Madigan said the summit will look at a wide range of
issues, including how to use tax dollars more wisely, how to develop a fairer
system for funding transportation projects and what the Commonwealth can do in
the long term to improve all its transportation networks.
